Chetopa Kansas may be a very small town, but we take great pride in our community events! Our Independence Day Celebration can be deemed outstanding in it's field, thanks to the efforts put forth by our Chamber of Commerce and other dedicated community members. July 4th proves to be a big hit, bringing in a great crowd every year from many surrounding communities. Below you will find information on the various events planned for our 2017 Celebration.
Midwest Pullers LLC of West Mineral Kansas never fail to bring in a big crowd every year for the Classic & Antique Tractor Pull, along with the Mini-Rod Tractor Pull. Both of these pulls are held in the beautiful East River Park of Chetopa Kansas. Bring your tractor and join in the fun, sign up starts at 8:00AM. The show starts at 9:00AM and goes most of the day. If you don't have a tractor, no worries, just bring your lawn chairs and watch all the action.
There are many traditions that come with Chetopa's Independence Day celebration and the Horseshoe Tournament is one of those traditions. Registration begins at 9:00AM under the tent set up at the Horseshoe pit in Veteran's Park. There are 2 Age Divisions and the pitching starts at 10:00AM. This event is Sponsored by Lawellin Hauling, Backhoe, & Trenching.
Come out and join Bob O'Brien for a morning filled with fun & horseshoes.
New in 2016 the Chamber of Commerce began a Cornhole Tournament, it was a huge hit. With that in mind the Chamber has decided to bring it back in 2017. Registration will be open at 9:00AM and the tournament will start at 9:30. Teams wishing to join in this tournament are encouraged to pre-reigster by filling out the form below. Teams will consist of 2 players, first team making it to 21 wins. No skunking allowed. The Cornhole tournment does cost $20.00 per team to play. There is a $100.00 first place prize.
Arts & Craft Vendors along with Food Vendors will be set up from 10:00AM till dark. If you are interested in setting up a craft booth, vendor stand, or other kind of fundraising booth please contact Audrey, Rebekah, or Debbie at 620-236-7277.

Chetopa's Swimming Pool will host a free swim from 10:00AM to 3:00PM for the July 4th Celebration. From 1:00PM to 3:00PM there will be swimming games sponsored by Lawellin Hauling, Backhoe, & Trenching. The swimming pool will also reopen after the fireworks till Midnight, however there will be an admission fee for that swim time.
Come out and join Renee and the crew at the swimming pool.
The Chetopa Police Department will once again sponsor their Famous UTV Race in the East River Park. The race starts at 12:00PM and is one event that always promises to keep you on your toes. Bring your RZR's and UTV's and join Scott the Cop in having a little fun. There is no entry fee for this event, just a few rules to follow. Onlookers are always welcome to bring their lawn chairs and watch the fun.
The Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring Inflatable Games for the Kids starting at 12:00PM and running until 7:00PM. The inflatables are FREE to all children.
Little Power Wheels Derby
Brought to you By Riverside Sporting Goods
Will be held in Riverside's Parking Lot Area
You must bring your childs own power wheels to compete in the Derby
Chetopa Chamber of Commerce will start selling Hamburgers and Hot Dogs in the Mae Lessley Community Building at 12:00PM.
At 3:00PM they will add a Catfish dinner to that menu.
Starting At 3:00 PM there will be lots of ativities centered around kids happening. Most of these games and activites will be going on at the Stage in Veterans Park.
At 3:00PM We will have a Tug O War contest
for children ages 5-7 & 8-12.

At 3:30PM there will be a Stick Horse Race
for ages 3 & 4.

At 4:00PM "Bang for your Buck's Games" will take the stage.
This event will bring a few different games for ages 5-10 years old, including the Hungry Hippo game that was a huge hit last year.
This Event is sponsored by Chetopa State Bank.
At 5:00PM Chetopa State Bank will sponsor the Annual Mr. & Mrs. Chetopa Patriotic Pageant. This event is for ages newborn to 4 years old. All contests MUST be dressed patriotic in order to qualify for Mr. or Mrs. Chetopa. There is no entry fee for the Pageant & you can pre-register using the form below or register at the park about 30 minutes before the Pageant starts.
